Louisiana: Interstates Are Open; Many State Highways in Low-Lying Areas Remain Closed

September 14, 2008 - 4:28 pm

BATON ROUGE (September 14, 2008) – The Louisiana State Police reports that all Interstate highways throughout the state are open.

Troopers are patrolling interstates and state highways to determine if they are safe for motorists to travel.

Debris and high water have hindered the ability of motorists to travel safely in storm-affected areas.  Currently, all interstate systems are clear.  Troopers, in conjunction with parish officials, will continue to monitor all roadways and assist motorists in reaching their destinations as areas become accessible.

Many state highways in low-lying areas, particularly in Cameron, Calcasieu, Iberia, Terrebone, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes remain closed due to high water.  For current road closure information, the public can dial 511 from their telephone or go to www.LSP.org or www.511LA.org on the web.
